Ophelia Nick
Member of the German Bundestag for the Green PartyMy name is Ophelia Nick, I am a Green Member of the German Bundestag for the district of Mettmann Nord district since 2021 and Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture.
In the Bundestag and the Federal Ministry, I am committed to good food for all, sustainable and future-proof agriculture and animal welfare. I work hard to ensure that our planet remains worth living on and that we protect what we use.
Agriculture
A future-proof agriculture means a sustainable agriculture that adapts to the climate crisis and becomes a climate protector. Only a sustainable agriculture will enable farmers to make a good living from their work in the long term and will enable farms to remain in existence. I want to work with farmers to find practical, good solutions to existing problems in agriculture. We need work together here.
This also applies to livestock farming. Animals are part of a functioning agriculture with closed nutrient cycles. But only animal-friendly farming has a future. That is why I will continue to support farmers in the transition to better animal husbandry.

Nutrition
Everyone should be able to eat well. Good food is tasty, sustainable and healthy, and the things that are good for us often also benefit the environment.
Choosing healthy food should be less complicated. Social circumstances should not dictate who can eat what. Good food for all is also a matter of fairness. Mass catering is a good way of making good food accessible to many people. Around 16 million people eat in canteens every day, so there should be better and healthier food available here.

Biodiversity & climate protection
If we want to continue to live well on our planet, we need to do a better job of protecting our livelihoods. Floods, droughts and forest fires show what the climate and biodiversity crises can do.
These crises directly threaten us humans and they threaten our livelihoods – soil, water and nature. We need to adapt and mitigate the climate and biodiversity crises. The expansion of renewable energy, nature conservation and a climate-neutral economy are important levers for preserving what sustains us.

My home
I live with my family in the district of Mettmann in North Rhine-Westphalia. My political commitment has its roots here. It is important to me to know the people in my constituency and to represent their concerns and the region in Berlin. I am always happy to talk to people during my public office hours, but also at events in the constituency – and of course when interested people from the district of Mettmann visit me in Berlin.
